TOWN OF MILTON – PUBLIC NOTICE

Transition to Sussex County Property Assessments, including FY2026 and FY2027 Tax Rate Posting

The Town of Milton hereby provides public notice that the Mayor and Town Council have voted and approved the transition from the Town’s 2009 Property Assessments to the Sussex County Property Assessments for all municipal taxation purposes. This change aligns Milton’s assessment base with current county‑certified valuations and supports consistency, accuracy, and transparency in the administration of property taxation.

The Town of Milton is issuing notice of the following:

  • Per 22 Del. C.

    § 1105, the

FY2026 Rollback Property Tax Rate is .321 per $100 of assessed value. This rate is calculated to identify revenue neutrality following the adoption of the 2023 Sussex County assessment roll.

  • Proposed FY2027 Property Tax Rates are approximately .345 for residential use and .562 for nonresidential use, per $100 of assessed value. These rates are calculated pursuant to 22 Del. C.

§ 1107 and in an effort

to maintain the prior fiscal year property tax revenue share between property classified as residential (80%) and nonresidential (20%). The proposed tax rates include a 15% growth factor reflective of the Town’s projected budget increase for FY2027. This proposed rate is intended to support municipal operations, public safety, maintenance, associated with Milton’s continued growth.

  • Any property owner in the town limits of Milton may calculate an approximate Town tax as follows:

    • Sussex County Assessment for tax period 2026-2027

    • Divided by $100

    • Multiplied by the above residential or nonresidential tax rate

    • Equals town tax

These rates will be formally considered and may be voted upon by the Town Council at its upcoming public meeting Monday, September 14, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
